Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Continuing Education
Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)
The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board® (PTCB®) offers credentials to individuals who wish to distinguish themselves in the pharmacy technician field and build rewarding careers in healthcare. PTCB's credential programs assess the knowledge of technicians who are qualified to support pharmacists and patient care teams in all practice settings and enable technicians to work more efficiently with pharmacists to offer safe and effective patient care. PTCB Certification Programs and PTCB Assessment-Based Certificate Programs serve different purposes.
Certifications
Certifications assess an individual's mastery of job knowledge, require Continuing Education, and award an acronym after one's name. PTCB offers three national certification programs for pharmacy technicians:
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) is the foundation of a rewarding career as a pharmacy technician. To earn CPhT Certification, pharmacy technicians must meet eligibility requirements and earn a passing score on the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam® (PTCE®). Once certified, CPhTs must recertify every 2 years to maintain active status. Learn more »
- Certified Compounded Sterile Preparation Technician® (CSPT®) demonstrates a CPhT's knowledge and skill as a specialized pharmacy technician in compounded sterile preparation as well as their commitment to the role they play in ensuring medication safety. To apply, a candidate must be an active PTCB CPhT in good standing and satisfy PTCB's education and/or work criteria. Learn more »
- Advanced Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT-Adv) recognizes CPhTs for their expertise, experience, and unwavering commitment to advancing medication safety. Active PTCB CPhTs who have completed at least four of the certificate programs, or three certificate programs and the Compounded Sterile Preparation Technician (CSPT) Certification, and 3 years of work experience will be eligible to earn the CPhT-Adv credential.
